Meet Plastic Surgeon Dr. Marni Mentis

Dr. Mentis is residency-trained and Dual Board Certified in general surgery as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery. She is the founder and director of her private practice, Iconique Plastic Surgery, in Clearwater, FL. She began her career in the Midwest, graduating from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Her empathy for patients, combined with a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, led her to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA, where she was successfully conferred the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

Endeavoring to become a well-rounded physician, Dr. Mentis subsequently pursued training in a one-year traditional, rotating internship at Des Moines General Hospital, where she developed a keen interest in the surgical arts. She entered the highly competitive, male-dominated field of surgery, and completed a four-year residency in General Surgery at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, FL, where she demonstrated high clinical acumen and surgical technique. After successfully completing her residency, she spent one year conducting research in wound healing with Dr. Wyatt Payne at the University of South Florida – Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL.

Dr. Mentis was then awarded a coveted position as fellow in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this demanding two-year fellowship, she trained in a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures at centers throughout New York and Pennsylvania, such as Westchester County Medical Center, NY, Hahnemann University Hospital, PA, Saint Mary Medical Center, PA, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, PA, and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, PA.

Dr. Mentis maintains involvement in her profession and is currently an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, and a fellow in American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. She has lectured nationally in her field of plastic surgery and has published several articles in the area of wound healing.

What’s in a name?

Iconique Plastic Surgery is a name that Dr. Mentis created to describe her practice. She thought about her patients and what it is that they would need from a plastic surgeon. Her patients would need someone who could listen to their needs and desires, and then be able to translate it into a wonderful, positive surgical outcome. Everyone has their own ideal image, or Icon, within themselves, and Dr. Mentis knows how to help you realize your vision.
